Twenty-seven events, nine films in each of the city's three iconic locations chosen for screenings: everything is ready for "Cinema all'Aperto - Cagliari visione di un mondo," the festival dedicated to the seventh art that joins the Si Muove la Città and Carmine 2026 programming for the Cagliari summer.
The free evenings will be hosted in Piazza San Cosimo, the Orto dei Cappuccini, and the Bastione di Saint Remy, adding to the ongoing initiatives for Si Muove la Città and Carmine 2026. "The goal," explains Maria Francesca Chiappe, Councilor for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, "is to promote a diverse program of cultural and entertainment events, involving multiple neighborhoods, enabling socialization and the rediscovery, in a different light, or for tourists who wish to participate, of key places in our city."
Funded with €50,000, "Open-Air Cinema - Cagliari Vision of a World" offers a program to suit all tastes, from classic films to international hits, including animated films for younger viewers, spread across Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings until September 2nd.
The Settima Arte association, which runs the Greenwich Film Club, will be curating the Monday screenings in Piazza San Cosimo, focusing on war-related themes— a timely topic today. The first screening will be on July 6th, starting at 9:00 p.m., with Gabriele Salvatores' film "Mediterraneo." Other films on the program include Roberto Rossellini's masterpiece "Rome, Open City," Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove," Barry Levinson's "Good Morning, Vietnam," and Mario Monicelli's "The Great War."
Cagliari at the Cinema is the theme proposed by the CineTeatro Alkestis for Tuesday evenings on the terrace of the Bastione di Saint Remy: a series of films shot in the city, aiming to highlight authors, languages, and imagery connected to the region. From classics of local cinema, such as "Tajabone" by Salvatore Mereu and "Il figlio di Bakunin" by Gianfranco Cabiddu, to "Piove deserto" by Daniele Maggioni, "Pesi Leggeri" by Enrico Pau, "Casteddu Sicsti" by Paolo Carboni, and "Il clan dei ricciai" by Pietro Mereu, "Tutto torna" by Enrico Pitzianti, Michele De Murtas, and Nicolo Falchi, including the shorts "Bar Seui" by Andrea Deidda and "Mammarranca" by Francesco Piras: a program designed to offer Cagliari residents and visitors a different perspective on the city and its diverse landscapes.
"Nessun dorma - Cinema under the stars for little dreamers" is the title of the Wednesday screening dedicated to younger viewers, held at the Orto dei Cappuccini and curated by the Spazio 2001 cooperative, which runs the Cinema Odissea in the city. Again, there are several titles for all tastes: among others, "Little Nicolas's Holiday" by Laurent Tirard, "Buffalo Kids" by Juan Jesus Garcia, "My Robot Friend" by Pablo Berger, "The Princess and the Eagle" by Otto Bell, "Night at the Museum" by Shawn Levy, and "A Monster in Paris" by Bibo Bergeron.
All screenings, always free and open to all, will begin at 9 pm. The complete program is in the attached poster.
