A band of post-punk pioneers , part of a generation of innovators, are on tour on the island starting tomorrow : this Friday at the Fabrik in Cagliari, the iconic Not Moving will be guests, a recognized name in the Italian alternative scene for over forty years. In a date dedicated to their latest album "That's All Folks" and organized with the support of the Gavinuccio Canu association – which will bring Not Moving to Sassari on Saturday for "Lievi Favole" – the opening stage will be graced by island punk veterans Gods Of Gamble , with a date at 9 pm .

The new Italian rock

Not Moving (originally "No Eyes") were founded in Piacenza in 1981 by Antonio "Tony Face" Bacciocchi (drums) and Paolo Molinari (guitarist), both former members of Chelsea Hotel, with Danilo Dallagiovanna (bass), joined by Rita "Lilith" Oberti on vocals and Mariella "Severine" Rocchetta on keyboards. Veering towards the post-punk of groups like Cramps and X , but with garage, psychedelic and surf influences, they aroused the interest of critics with the self-produced " Behind Your Pale Face ", ending up on the compilation "Gathered", a manifesto of new Italian rock .

Electric Eye Records released Not Moving's first extended play, " Strange Dolls ," which brought them international success, even to the BBC, and found an unexpected fan in the great Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys). In 1983, Molinari left the band and was replaced by Domenico Petrosino, aka "Dome La Muerte," with whose contribution Not Moving further developed their acid influences and their " gothabilly " sound. Their critical and commercial success increased with each release, and they performed live alongside the Clash, Litfiba, Johnny Thunders, and many others. In 1985, the band moved to Spittle Records, where they released the dark blues of " Black'n'Wild ," earning them a place in the pantheon of the 1980s .

In this vein , their studio debut "Sinnermen" (1986) was released, which despite a faulty mix achieved further success at home and abroad. Although they were busy touring throughout Europe and engaged in new sound research, as evidenced by their second album " Flash On You " (1988), the crisis began when Dallagiovanna left the band, followed two years later by Lilith and Tony Face. Only Dome and Severine continued with the group: with the Cheyenne poet Lance Henderson and other musicians, they recorded " Song of Myself ", dedicated to Native Americans, and continued their live activity despite numerous lineup changes, bidding farewell to the public with the spacey, heavy tones of " Homecomings " (1994).

The two reunions

The 2005 release of the invaluable documentary " Live in the 80s " rekindled interest in Not Moving, thanks both to footage of an ill-fated concert in Pavia in 1982, featured in the feature film, and to the words of other Italian rock icons like Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi (Carnival of Fools, La Crus) and Cristiano Godano (Marlene Kuntz). Thus, Dome, Lilith, and Tony Face reunited for a few dates that would last until 2006, also opening for The Damned and Iggy Pop with the Stooges, but never actually reunited.

But thirteen years later, the group was unexpectedly reborn under the name Not Moving LTD , with which they released the acclaimed " Love Beat " (2022) and received the coveted Ciampi Lifetime Achievement Award , performing at the awards ceremony with CCCP and Marlene Kuntz. A new beginning that does not forget its roots, as the return to the original name in 2025 suggests: also using the classic logo designed by Eddie King, they released the new " That's All Folks " for La Tempesta Dischi and were awarded the Lucca Underground Festival Award last November.
