Second appointment on the calendar this evening, Thursday 14 May, at 9 pm in Cagliari , for " A tu per duo ", the review organised by Nicola Spiga , patron of the Forma e Poesia nel Jazz cooperative, under the banner of one of the most essential and fascinating modalities of jazz: dialogue between two people.
After pianist and singer Silvia Manco and trumpeter Antonello Sorrentino, who were the stars of JazzArt last Saturday, it's now the turn of Karima and Walter Ricci, on stage at Bflat, the jazz club on Via del Pozzetto managed by Marcotullio Coco, in a meeting under the banner of vocalism and the great Italian tradition: a journey through the songs of the 1950s and 1960s , songs that have entered the collective imagination and are reinterpreted by the singer from Livorno and the pianist and crooner from Naples with jazz sensibility and a strong interpretative understanding.
Born in Livorno, a seaside city from which she inherited her openness to contamination, Karima approached music as a child, participating in television programs such as "Bravo Bravissimo" and "Domenica In".
Fame came in 2006 with "Amici di Maria De Filippi," where she won third place and the critics' award, establishing herself as one of the most interesting voices on the Italian scene.
Gifted with an intense and versatile voice, capable of moving between jazz, soul, blues and gospel, Karima began a career full of prestigious collaborations.
In 2009 he participated in the Sanremo Music Festival and began his artistic partnership with Burt Bacharach, the only Italian singer for whom the great American composer and arranger wrote songs and with whom he recorded his first album in Los Angeles.
During the same period, she performed the Italian soundtrack for the Disney film "The Princess and the Frog" and opened concerts for artists such as Whitney Houston and John Legend.
Over the years, Karima has appeared on successful television programs, represented Italy with Umbria Jazz at international festivals, and earned acclaim in China, where she has performed on tour and at the prestigious Beijing Opera House.
At the same time, he collaborated with musicians such as Dado Moroni, Riccardo Fioravanti, Stefano Bagnoli and the street band Funk Off, distinguishing himself for his ability to reinvent each song with a personal and recognizable style.
Her most recent works include 2021's "No Filter," a blend of pop and jazz, the 2022 Christmas album "Xmas," and "Karima canta autori," released just a year ago, in May 2025, dedicated to great Italian singers such as Pino Daniele, Umberto Bindi, Mario Venuti, and Edoardo De Crescenzo.
Walter Ricci , with whom Karima will duet on Thursday evening at the Bflat, is a pianist and singer with a solid jazz background.
Born in 1989 and raised in a family environment strongly tied to music thanks to his musician father, he developed a deep passion for jazz from a very young age, from swing to bebop to contemporary sounds.
Fascinated by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald, he devoted himself to the study of piano and improvisation, soon beginning to perform in the main Italian jazz clubs alongside leading musicians.
The turning point came in 2006 with the victory of the "Massimo Urbani Award", an occasion on which he met Fabrizio Bosso, a central figure in his artistic career and a regular collaborator in the years that followed.
Collaborations with Stefano Di Battista and numerous international experiences followed, while between 2009 and 2010 he was in the cast of "Domenica In" as a vocalist of the orchestra directed by Pippo Caruso, duetting with artists such as Michael Bublé and Mario Biondi, who would also involve him in his recording and live projects.
In 2015 he reached the final of the prestigious "Monk Competition" organized by Quincy Jones in Los Angeles, while the following year he won first place at the "New Wave Contest" in Sochi, Russia.
In 2021, she also received the prestigious Lunezia Award for her interpretive qualities and refined vocal style, suspended between retro elegance and contemporary sensibility.
