Four jazz giants on the same stage for a new original artistic project by Sardegna Concerti on stage this evening, Monday 26 May, at 9 pm on the main stage of the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari: great international music returns forcefully to the scene promising an extraordinary evening full of emotions, rhythm, fun and joy.
The protagonists of the super live exclusively for the Island will be the pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the saxophonist Chris Potter, the double bass player Larry Grenadier and the drummer Eric Harland: the virtuoso quartet will therefore say goodbye to the new season of the Cagliari jazz spring giving light to an artistic partnership born in August 2023 at the Dizzy's Club of the Lincoln Center in New York.
A “First meeting”, a first meeting, in fact, created two years ago by four great musicians with the task of bringing with them an original song or arrangement and the pleasure of making a lot of music together.
Since then, that first meeting has given life to a series of concerts of extraordinary quality and today, in the Capital, that very band will find itself playing together again giving life to a reunion of exceptional artistic value, capable of blending technique, creativity and pure musical expression.
Leading the group is one of the new sacred monsters of the keyboard world currently active.
Multiple Grammy Award winner, pianist and composer, Gonzalo Rubalcaba began his career at a young age in his native Cuba, discovered by Dizzy Gillespie in 1985.
He has been reviewed by Piano & Keyboard Magazine as one of the great pianists of the 20th century, alongside figures such as Glenn Gould, Martha Argerich and Bill Evans.
He developed his own music, reaching worldwide fame in the 1980s through collaborations with Charlie Haden and Paul Motian.
His international recording career includes titles such as “Discovery – Live at Montreux”, “The Blessing”, “Rapsodia” and many others.
In the United States, he has received 19 Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, winning three Grammys for “Nocturne” (2001), “Land of the Sun” (2004), and “Skyline” (2022), the latter recorded with two other jazz legends Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette, and numerous Latin Grammys including those for “Supernova” (2002), “Solo” (2006), and “Live in Marciac” (2022) with singer Aymée Nuviola.
