Simone Sozza has been appointed referee for the match between Cagliari and Fiorentina, the first matchday of the Serie A championship, scheduled for Sunday 24 August at 6:30 pm at the Domus.

One of Italy's best referees, the international referee from the Seregno section, born in 1987, has officiated 61 matches in the top flight. He has five previous Serie A matches against Cagliari, with the Rossoblu recording two draws and three defeats (last year's home defeat against Empoli at the start of the season and a 2-2 draw at Genoa in November). Sozza has also officiated for Cagliari in Serie B, on just one occasion, a win for the Rossoblu. He is assisted by linesmen Fontemurato and Biffi, fourth official Mucera, Di Paolo on VAR, and Guida Avar.

These are the referee appointments for the first matchday of the 2025/2026 Serie A championship, scheduled from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 August.
