Cagliari, F1H2O puts on a show at Su Siccu: Torrente and Wyatt win the Sprint Races
Tomorrow the Sardinia Region Grand Prix of ItalyThe race weekend in Cagliari, on the Su Siccu lake, officially opens the 2026 F1H2O season, the marine Formula One that has been missing from the city since 2004 and which lands in Sardinia for its only European round.
After yesterday's free practice, today the 18 drivers in the race had to deal with stopwatches and overtaking.
This morning, qualifying saw reigning champion Shaun Torrente, an American from Victory Team who is seeking his fifth world title in 2026, take the top spot. Canadian Rusty Wyatt of Sharjah Team finished second, while Estonian Stefan Arand, who like the previous two drivers will play a key role in the race, finished third.
The two Sprint Races were held in the afternoon. American Torrente triumphed in the first, leading consistently, ahead of Frenchman Peter Morin and Pole Bartek Marszalek. Italian Comparato was out due to an engine failure. Wyatt won Sprint Race 2, ahead of Anderson and Arand. Arand was second until a lap from the end, when he was slowed by an electrical issue, and then managed to climb to third place after Trask's post-race penalty.
Tomorrow is the final day, featuring warm-ups (10:15-11:15), 2-Seater (12:30-2:00 PM, demonstration laps), Parade Lap Race (2:45-3:00 PM), and the eagerly awaited Regione Sardegna Gran Prix of Italy (3:05-3:50 PM). The awards ceremony will follow.
