The "Life safe for vultures" project to repopulate and safeguard griffon vultures in Sardinia, led by the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Sassari with the Forestas Agency and the Forestry Corps of the Sardinia Region, gains international attention with the conference scheduled for 23 and 24 May in Cagliari, in the spaces of the Regina Margherita hotel.

Summoned by E-Distribuzione and the Vulture Conservation Foundation, the leading experts from all over Europe will take stock of the project starting from one of the main threats to the safety of griffins, electrocution and collision with energy infrastructures.

Tuesday 23 May, after the introductory speech by Fiammetta Berlinguer, professor of the veterinary medicine department of the University of Sassari and scientific director of the project, the first part of the work will start, dedicated to "Impacts of electrocution and collision, context law and national approaches", in which Ispra experts and scholars from Portugal and Spain will participate.

The second day of Wednesday 24 will be dedicated to "Mitigation systems" currently tested or being adopted in various parts of Europe, including Sardinia. Together with José Tavares of the Vulture Conservation Foundation and Fabrizio Milia of E-Distribuzione, representatives of projects carried out in other parts of Europe, from France to Cyprus, from Bulgaria to England, will bring their testimony.

Electrocution and collision with energy infrastructure are recognized as a high priority threat under the Multispecies Action Plan for the Conservation of Afro-Eurasian Vultures since 2017.
