At the Lirico di Cagliari the fourth evening of the 2023 concert season .

On February 25th and 26th the appointment in the hall is with Russian musical literature and three famous pages signed by equally important composers. The conductor Donato Renzetti returns to the podium of the theater in via S.Alenixedda. The following are scheduled: Festive Ouverture op. 96 by Dmitry Shostakovich ; Romeo and Juliet, fantasy overture in B minor by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky ; Second Symphony in E minor op. 27 by Sergei Rachmaninov .

The first was composed in 1947 to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Russian Revolution (1917). It was first performed in 1954 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

The second , considered Tchaikovsky's first masterpiece , saw the light in 1869 even if the author returned the following year to modify some parts and again in 1880, to rewrite the epilogue.

The third composition instead dates back to 1906-1907 , its first performance on 8 February 1908 at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg directed by Rachmaninov himself . The show has a total duration of approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, including the intermission.
