2022 marks the second best performance in the history of the airport for Cagliari airport: after the absolute record of 2019 - with 4,739,077 total passengers - the year just ended recorded 4,386,207 travelers between arrivals and departures.
Compared to 2021, there is a growth of 60.2%, which corresponds to an increase of 1,648,064 passengers year on year. The peak was in July with 582,497 travellers.
As far as national traffic is concerned, total passengers were 3,337,815, +47.7% compared to the 2021 data. Triple-digit growth percentages on international routes : in the last twelve months there were 1,048,155 arrivals and departures, therefore +119.1% if compared to last year Aircraft movements are also on the increase: in 2022, between landings and take-offs, the Cagliari airport reaches 33,288 (+39% compared to 2021).
The routes in territorial continuity - which connect Cagliari with Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate and, in 2022, represent 31.9% of national passenger traffic - recorded a total of 1,065,567 transits between arrivals and departures, or +35% in comparison with the 2021.
General aviation traffic is also growing, which in 2022 saw 2.4% more aircraft movements than the previous year.
«In just one year we have managed to grow our traffic by over 1.6 million passengers, a decisive push to move away from the negative performances linked to the pandemic - comments Renato Branca, CEO of Sogaer - It should also be emphasized that the 2022 in terms of economic balance was the best in the history of Sogaer despite the surge in electricity prices with an increase in costs of over 2.5 million euros".
For 2023, work has begun on the entire terminal , inside and outside, on the runway, in the aprons, in the aircraft parking area, in the boarding areas, loading bridges, toilets and other infrastructures. The program provides for an outlay of approximately 6 million euros.
In the next summer season, the novelty will be represented by the first direct intercontinental connection operated from Sardinia. In fact, the new flights between Cagliari and Dubai of the flydubai company will start on 22 June and will have a three-weekly frequency (every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday).
