April 12, 1970, a Sunday that became legendary. Exactly 56 years ago, Cagliari won its only Scudetto, and the rossoblù club celebrates the anniversary as they do every year.

On the club's social media channels, a series of photos accompanied by a short phrase and two red and blue hearts: "On April 12, 1970, Cagliari became Italian champions. Happy birthday, Scudetto."

That day, a packed Amsicora stadium welcomed the players onto the field, and those who couldn't get in climbed everywhere: on lampposts, in trees, even on the roofs of nearby houses. Everyone wanted to witness a dream that was about to come true.

A victory over Bari would have been enough to crown themselves champions with two games to spare. And the young team led by Manlio Scopigno did not fail to achieve their goal.

Leading the march to victory was Gigi Riva, who had found a home, heart, and family in Cagliari, forgoing the big salaries of the more successful clubs. It was he who broke the deadlock, then "Bobo" Gori's second goal sealed the win at 2-0.

That day, Cagliari Calcio recalled in last year's message, "the whole of Sardinia raised its head once and for all. It wasn't just a sporting trophy, it was a collective redemption, a victory that reeked of dignity. Cagliari's Scudetto wasn't just sewn onto their shirts, it was etched in the hearts of every Sardinian, both on and off the island."
