In the first six months of the year, the national entrepreneurial system recorded a positive growth rate in almost all Italian regions. The expansion of businesses in Sardinia registers +0.49% compared to the Italian average of +0.35%. In fifth place nationally. A decreasing growth rate, but still higher than the national average. In the second quarter there is still a positive balance for companies in Northern Sardinia. Albeit a decrease compared to the same period last year. The growth rate of the first half of +0.85% places Sassari in seventh place in the national ranking, Cagliari (23rd place with +0.42%) and Oristano (50th place with +0.21%) and Nuoro (58th place with +0.16%). According to the elaboration of the research office of the Chamber of Commerce of Sassari, on the statistical basis relating to the Infocamere database, considering the first six months of the year, Sardinia loses five positions, moving to seventh place compared to 2022. Registrations in Sardinia were 3,336, against 3,493 terminations. The short-term analysis of the quarter shows a reduction in enrollments accompanied by an increase in terminations. These dynamics generated a lower balance than in previous years.

In Sardinia there are 2,067 new businesses and 1,447 closures. The balance, equal to 590 units, has never been so low since 2008. The same goes for the growth rate. In Northern Sardinia, in the quarter of 2023, the dynamics of companies suffered a marked slowdown compared to the same periods of previous years. There were 755 openings. Terminations are down, 418. However, the balance, equal to 337 units, is lower than those recorded in the previous two years. In summary, in the first six months of 2023 there were: 1,619 registrations, almost 300 fewer than in 2022. 1,149 units ceased. For a balance of 440 businesses, as it demonstrates a loss of post-pandemic momentum. Dynamics that provides a growth rate of 0.85 percent. During the first 6 months of 2023, there was a good performance in services and a decline in trade» and in activities related to the primary sector.

The services sector is the liveliest with a growth of over 200 activities, followed by the construction sector (+99 units) and tourism, in this analysis represented by the accommodation and catering activities (+79). The conclusions are completely different if you compare the data for June 2023 with the same month of the previous year. In 12 months, in fact, there was a loss of 162 businesses (-0.4%). At the end of June 2023, the employees employed in the over 46,000 active companies amounted to approximately 117,000 units. The figure is more than 800 employees lower than in the same month of the previous year. The loss is mainly determined by the commerce sector which, over the last 12 months, marks a -843 compared to the work units. Comment by the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Stefano Visconti: «It is necessary to make a reflection, not only on a local level, but above all on a national level. This continuous decline in entrepreneurial dynamism requires timely and, most importantly, effective countermeasures. And above all it must be stopped as soon as possible.
