The operation to implant the removable subcutaneous defibrillator was performed this morning and by the weekend Edoardo Bove will finally be able to leave the Careggi hospital where he has been hospitalized since the evening of December 1st when he was struck by a sudden illness on the pitch , in the 17th minute of Fiorentina-Inter.
The Viola player, after passing through the intensive care unit of the Emergency Room, has been in the Utic department, the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, since Wednesday.
The operation (now considered routine) was successful and Bove will soon be able to return home , but not before stopping at Viola Park to greet and hug coach Raffaele Palladino and his teammates who have been close to him from the very beginning, together with his parents Giovanni and Tanya and his girlfriend Martina.
" Edoardo contacted the club a few minutes ago and was informed by him that he is fine and will have to continue with the post-operative process before being discharged from the hospital in the next few days": this is the statement released this evening by Fiorentina regarding the conditions of the 22-year-old midfielder after the implantation of the removable subcutaneous defibrillator.
According to the health protocol , the implantation of a defibrillator is necessary to be discharged from the hospital , hence the decision of the 22-year-old midfielder who arrived in Florence at the end of August on loan from Roma, to whom he has a contract until 2028: the Viola club, where the player has immediately settled in well, has the right to redeem set at 10.5 million euros which becomes mandatory in the event of 60% of appearances.
Assuming that health comes first, what happened puts Bove's career on hold for the time being. Together with his family, he will take his time to decide which path to take : before making any decision, he will wait for the results of the various tests he has undergone to understand the nature of the illness (whether genetic or due to an infection) and the causes that generated it. The doctors themselves want to have a precise clinical picture and this could take a few months.
As emerged from sources close to Fiorentina, the fact that the implanted defibrillator is removable (removing it would require a small surgical operation) means that Bove can choose completely independently. Italian regulations on the matter are more stringent than abroad, so at the moment the Roman midfielder could not regain the eligibility to continue playing for Fiorentina or other clubs in our country. But even if he were forced to keep a permanent defibrillator, he could continue his career abroad, starting from the Premier League where, for example, the Danish Christian Eriksen is playing, who after suffering a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match with the national team, left Inter to move to Brentford and then to Manchester United where he still plays.
