In Italy there is a boom for bed and breakfasts, which also represent "the new frontier of youth and women's businesses". And, in this trend, the data from Sardinia also shines.

This is what is highlighted by the latest report from Unioncamere and Infocamere , according to which 2023 was a year of «strong growth in accommodation for tourists as an alternative to hotels: 3,508 more companies operating in the panorama of holiday homes, guest houses and residences (+11 .5% compared to 2022), almost 2 thousand of which were born from the initiative of under 35s or women".

In particular, «businesses managed by young people increased by 13.7% in 2023 (+575), reaching 4,782. On the other hand, there are 1,469 more female businesses that deal with alternative accommodation to hotels, with an increase of 11% compared to 2022 which brings the total to 14,726 companies led by women".

At a geographical level, «the holiday accommodation sector is growing throughout Italy, but there are 11 regions that exceed the national average (+11.5%) , with Emilia Romagna, Campania, Lombardy, Sardinia and Marche in the leading positions.

The Unioncamere and InfoCamere data exclusively concern the operation of B&Bs in the form of a business. Considering instead the overall offer of parallel hospitality, in 2023 there will be 761 thousand accommodations available, with a strong concentration in Tuscany (14.2%), Lombardy (10%), Sicily (11.8%), Puglia (9%) and Sardinia (8.6%). From the re-elaborations of Isnart, the national institute of the chamber system for tourism research, there has been a growth in the offer of private rentals of +10% (compared to 2022), with 17 million bookings in 2023 (January/November), for a national turnover of 7 billion euros.
