Massimo Boldi will not carry the Olympic flame. The actor, who was supposed to carry the torch in Cortina on January 26th, was excluded due to the opinions he expressed in a recent interview.
Boldi is paying tribute to the statements, released to Il Fatto Quotidiano , about his relationship with sport and the emotion of holding the Olympic torch in his hands: "I'm a torchbearer, but sport is the f... More than snow, I love aperitifs," he said.
The statement was deemed "incompatible with Olympic values and the principles that guide the work of the Organizing Committee," which thus decided to remove the actor from the list of torchbearers.
"It was meant to be a light-hearted and ironic joke," the actor later declared, "but it turned out to be inappropriate and offensive towards women and not in line with the principles of respect and inclusion that inspire the Olympic movement."
Despite the immediate apology, the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation has made it known that it will not change its decision, underlining the privilege, responsibility and values that the Olympic flame embodies.
