No progress has been made in Rome in the dispute over Sider Alloys of Portovesme, the former Alcoa primary aluminum plant based in Sulcis.

The unions came away from this morning's meeting at Mimit with an "absolutely negative" opinion.

For the territorial and national secretariats of Fim, Fiom and Uilm, the company has not given any certainty about the factory's production resumption despite the Sace guarantee obtained before Christmas which should unlock 17 million in crucial investments to get the plant back up and running.

At the table, the acronyms report, what emerged instead was the desire to reduce the workforce and there was no clarification on the back payments of the thirteenth salary nor on the definition of a timetable "that makes known the production and employment recovery plan".

The unions then ask for greater participation from Invitalia and the regional councilor for Industry: «Both - say Fim, Fiom and Uilm - have limited their presence to bland declarations, which highlight the lack of institutional attention on existing problems». The Sardinia Region, with the councilor for Labour, Ada Lai, and for Industry, Anita Pili, has expressed the need to have real guarantees on the future of the factory, in light of the additional resources allocated from its own budget funds for approximately 2, 5 million euros.

The two members of the Council recalled that there are more than 300 workers who have been waiting for years to be reinstated , believing for this reason that confirmation of the real and concrete desire to resume aluminum production activity, with its expected employment impact.

The Labor Department is intervening with an income supplement allowance of 500 euros per month for workers who receive mobility in derogation.

The parties will meet again at Mimit on February 6 and 19.
