To remember the journalist of Rai Sardegna, Maria Piera Mossa, on Friday 27 December, at 8 pm in the Ariston cinema theatre in Bitti, there will be a screening and debate of the reportage “A factory invented in a real town”, dedicated to the industrial experience that began on the plateau of the Barbagia town between 1974 and 1978.

The four textile factories of Betatex, which came to life a few kilometers from the town in the San Giovanni area, led to the hiring of 180 workers (including 109 women) in the spring of '76, thus fueling yet another dream of industrial development in the heart of the Island. Just two years of activity and the gates were closed. From here began a very long union struggle with disappointing results, capable of once again fueling emigration to other more prosperous realities in the region and overseas.

The documentary

The reportage by Mossa, who died prematurely at the age of 52 in 2002, immerses itself in the expectations and hopes that were later betrayed, collected in 30 minutes of interviews conducted in Bitti, the day after the factory closed, and accompanied by the local tenore songs. It is the story of a town from almost 50 years ago, which no longer exists, where the relationship between the strong pastoral tradition and the industrial world was constantly confronted, then, through very distant cultural, social and economic codes.

The organization

The evening, included in the events of Bitto Christmas 2024 scheduled by the local administration, was born from an idea of the Su Golostiu hiking association which, in the organization, involved the municipal library and the Sinnos cultural association.

The screening with debate was therefore possible thanks to the collaboration of the municipal councilor for Tourism, Christian Farina, the delegate for Culture, Mario Sanna, and the Rai headquarters in Cagliari which made the video materials available.
