Just two weeks ago the great showcase in Milan, the fair “Do the right thing!”. A great success for Sardinia, for that tourist offer based on religious paths and slow tourism. Now the Region is relaunching: it intends to increasingly promote its environmental wonders and its history, all year round.
From 4 to 6 April, it will participate, for the first time, in the Agritravel Expo event , the “Fair of territories and slow tourism”. An important event now in its tenth edition, as always at home in Bergamo. «Sardinia's new approach to the tourism market is based on the structuring of thematic products that are no longer just complementary to the sea», specifies the regional councilor for Tourism, Franco Cuccureddu .
New approach
Going beyond the summer season and seaside tourism. The path is mapped out, the Island wants to change pace and make itself known for 12 months, taking advantage of new attractions and different methods. In the prestigious setting of Bergamo, the stage will be all for the “Destination Sardinia” . A varied proposal, made up of villages, paths, pilgrimage destinations. In short, the new frontier of hospitality is taking shape, it doesn’t care about big numbers, frenzy and glossy locations. Instead, it invests in an outdoor life, where it is possible to admire enchanted corners, fascinating paths. Then, taste traditional dishes. Obviously at a “slow pace”. Councilor Cuccureddu points out: « Slow tourism is a strategic sector for us . This is why the event “We walk in Sardinia”, scheduled for next October, is a key project. We want those who choose our Island to do so to live an authentic experience, in harmony with the territory and respecting its traditions. This way we could be attractive all year round."
Bergamo
A structured proposal to be presented also at Agritravel Expo. At the Bergamo fair, at the Sardinia stand, on Saturday 5 April at 12, the “Strategic plan for the enhancement and promotion of the certified villages of Sardinia” will be unveiled by Councilor Franco Cuccureddu. “It will be an opportunity to present, with the collaboration of Slow Food, the territories with their food and wine itineraries,” says the Tourism Councilor. “Then, the inclusion of UNESCO sites and those protected by Fai as cultural and landscape heritage of the Island as new opportunities to support slow tourism in our land. Afterwards, the head of the territorial enhancement and walks sector for the Region, Renato Tomasi, will illustrate the fourth edition of “We walk in Sardinia.” Yes, that initiative scheduled from 1 to 5 October, created with the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism. In its 2025 version it will be characterized by a new format that will give life to an unmissable experience through the “slow-paced journey”, with the novelties linked to the jubilee year. Finally, and with the help of immersive and experiential videos, Luigi Tiana will show the monastery of San Pietro di Sorres as a “slow living tourist offer model of the Island”.
Pilgrimage destinations
Villages and religious paths, but not only. At the Bergamo fair, great prominence will be given to the Destinazioni di pellegrinaggio foundation . To that virtuous reality that intends to consolidate the program of valorization and promotion expressed by a network of 8 locations protagonists in the slow tourism segment. Borutta, famous for the church and monastery of San Pietro di Sorres; Dorgali, birthplace of the blessed Sister Maria Gabriella Sagheddu, patron saint of Christian unity; Galtellì, a village characterized by deep devotion following the miracles of the Holy Crucifix; Gesturi, birthplace of the blessed Nicola; Laconi, village where Sant'Ignazio was born and lived; Luogosanto, home of Porta Santa and the statue of the Queen of Gallura; Orgosolo, birthplace of the blessed Antonia Mesina; Sant'Antioco, a town named after the patron saint of Sardinia. "In the exhibition area of the Region's stand - explains the president of the Pilgrimage Destinations Foundation, Franco Solinas - the tourist, environmental and religious guides, together with the tour operators, will explain how to participate in the fourth edition of "We walk in Sardinia". Furthermore, they will promote the offer of the individual "destinations", with targeted tourist packages . Therefore, the itineraries and the "path of the Blessed", along which to discover the quality hospitality and the beauty of the naturalistic, cultural, spiritual and food and wine heritage in the authentic and intimate heart of the Island".
