Beginners and great returns, the Sardinian patrol in Rome

There will be fewer Sardinian parliamentarians than before, it is a new situation, waiting to be discovered. This applies to all regions, of course: it is the effect of the cut that we wanted to give to the composition of the Chamber and Senate, in the belief that almost a thousand people were too many. In Montecitorio only 400 elected instead of 630, in Palazzo Madama 200 instead of 315 (apart from the senators for life). The sacrifice for the Sardinian delegation is more or less proportional.
At the debut
Today, therefore, the first day of school only for 11 deputies elected on the island and 5 senators. Before, however, there were 17 on one side and 8 on the other (and before that 18 plus 9: when there were no Italians elected abroad). The indecipherable mechanism of the electoral law, combined with the rule of multiple candidacies, however, ended up bringing two other representatives of Sardinia to Parliament. Both of the M5S: Alessandra Todde, who was elected in Lombardy leaving the second Sardinian seat in the Chamber to Susanna Cherchi, and Ettore Licheri, who takes the senatorial seat in Tuscany making room for the homonymous Sabrina Licheri (no relationship).
Only the male Licheri, among these, was a parliamentary in the last legislature. For everyone else today will be the debut. Alessandra Todde was Deputy Minister of Economic Development, but she was not in Parliament. The Sardinian Cinquestelle complete the delegation with the deputy Emiliano Fenu, and for him it will be both a debut and a confirmation: he was already a parliamentarian, but in the Senate.
Exchange of Chambers also between the only two elected members of the Democratic Party, Silvio Lai and Marco Meloni: for both it is a return, because they were already in Rome in the 2013-2018 legislature. But the first in the Senate, and now he will be a deputy; while Meloni does the reverse.
Marcello Pera had been missing for a long time, returning to the Senate (of which he was president) on the strength of the election in the single-member constituency of northern Sardinia. However, it is difficult to consider him a local representative: he ended up here for the same game of multiple nominations that favored Todde and Licheri. Different speech, always among the Brothers of Italy, for Giovanni Satta, also elected to the Senate: he has lived for some time in Rome, but at least he has origins in Buddusò.
Seven for FdI
One hundred percent Sardinian Antonella Zedda, the third senator of FdI (actually the first, given that the regional coordinator was the leader). For her it is the debut, as for Satta and three of the four deputies elected with the symbol of Giorgia Meloni: Gianni Lampis, Francesco Mura and Barbara Polo. Salvatore Deidda completes the team, who in the last legislature was the only Sardinian parliamentarian of FdI.
Francesca Ghirra, the only one elected to the House on the island for the Green-Left Alliance, will be in a similar condition for the next five years; and also Dario Giagoni, for the League. Both the municipal councilor from Cagliari and the regional leader of the Carroccio are freshmen; beyond the political distance, they will be able to learn the secrets of Montecitorio from the Forza Italia deputies Ugo Cappellacci and Pietro Pittalis, in the second legislature.
In total, out of 18 Sardinians in Rome (including the two "extras") there are 10 total rookies, 5 confirmations (including Fenu, despite the "move") and 3 returns. Impossible to say now if the small number of the Sardinian patrol will make it more difficult to effectively represent the entire island, as some fear: it is a story to be written, and they will do it.
