«Beekeeping is to be considered an important activity on our island, closely linked to agriculture».
This was stated by the regional councilor for Agriculture and Agro-Pastoral Reform of Sardinia, Gian Franco Satta, who convened the island's beekeeping commission.
«Its main functions can be traced back not only to economic practice and rural development - thanks to the specific production of honey and other products derived from the hive - but they are also indispensable for our lives and for the entire planet: without bees, in fact agricultural production itself would decrease drastically, with important repercussions on food availability", explains Satta.
«In recent years, bees have had to deal with ongoing climate change and the increasing frequency of drought periods, phenomena that have devastated their natural habitats. It is our duty as the Sardinia Region - concludes Satta - to find solutions to the problems and guarantee the survival of the bees themselves and of the entire beekeeping behaviour ".
