The agreement uniting culture, mobility, and local promotion has been renewed. The Barumini Link, the intermodal transport service that makes it even easier to reach the UNESCO site of Su Nuraxi, the historic Casa Zapata, and the exhibitions at the Giovanni Lilliu Center, will return for summer 2025. It connects the archaeological wonders of Barumini with Sardinia's main train stations. The result of the synergy between the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation, the Regional Directorate of Museums in Sardinia, and Trenitalia, the service represents a virtuous model of interinstitutional collaboration designed to facilitate tourist and cultural flows to a region that still has much to tell—and deserves adequate infrastructure to do so.

"The Barumini Link is a virtuous example of collaboration between institutions at all levels," emphasizes Emanuele Lilliu, president of the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation, "which allows even small towns to stay connected to the world. Barumini has become a hub for archaeology and cultural tourism in Sardinia and beyond, but it still faces challenges in terms of transportation. This is why we believe in initiatives that facilitate accessibility, so that this area can fully express its potential. This is why services like this must be supported and hopefully extended to the mid- and low-season periods as well."

The goal is clear: to simplify access to cultural sites, creating a bridge between inland areas and major cities through streamlined and integrated connections, capable of stimulating sustainable tourism and enhancing a unique heritage like that of the Nuragic complex of Su Nuraxi in Barumini.

"Improving the accessibility of a cultural site is a process that begins with increasing accessibility to these sites via various modes of transportation," emphasizes Valentina Uras, director of the Regional Directorate of Museums of Sardinia. "This is why we warmly welcome the second consecutive year of the Barumini Link initiative, strategically spearheaded by the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation and Trenitalia. This project aims to promote awareness of Su Nuraxi, a cultural heritage site for Sardinia and humanity."

Trenitalia is also pleased. "We are pleased to reconfirm the train and bus connection to the important archaeological site of Barumini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site," says Vincenzo Pullara, Director of Trenitalia Sardinia Regional Trains. "Trenitalia's regional train confirms its commitment to promoting the area, offering residents and tourists the opportunity to reach the archaeological site with a bus ride of about 40 minutes from San Gavino station."

HOW THE BARUMINI LINK WORKS

Operating from July 1st to September 30th, the Barumini Link service offers a train and bus combination connecting the San Gavino Monreale train station with the Su Nuraxi site. The scheduled connections are:

- 4 trips daily on weekdays

- 2 daily departures on holidays. The bus journey takes approximately 40 minutes, with no stops, to ensure a quick and direct transfer to the archaeological heart of Barumini.

The combined train and bus ticket can be purchased in a single transaction by selecting "Barumini" as the arrival or departure station on all Trenitalia sales channels (website, app, ticket offices, self-service machines, authorized agencies, and participating Puntolis and Mooney tobacconists). The bus supplement is €3, added to the train ticket price. It's important to remember that the bus ticket cannot be purchased separately: it is only available in combination with the Trenitalia travel ticket.
