In Sardinia , every animal tells a story . Some speak of beauty, others of mystery. That of the barn owl , the new protagonist of the series “The protagonists of nature” on newsstands with L'Unione Sarda and Ilisso Edizioni , is a story that begins in the shadows and becomes light, page after page.

From April 26, this fascinating and mysterious nocturnal bird of prey will be the face of a new illustrated volume that tells the story of the island's biodiversity with a unique approach : scientific, visual, but also photographic. In Sardinia, the barn owl is much more than an animal. It is a cultural symbol, rooted in the most ancient legends.

Her figure is intertwined with that of Sa Stria, the witch of island folklore capable of taking the form of a bird. Spotting her – grandparents say – was a sign of illness or bad luck. It was said that she “sniffed out” children and took them away, a dark myth to explain cot deaths or disappearances without an answer.

Today, L'Unione Sarda together with Ilisso gives back to this animal its authentic face: that of a silent guardian of ecosystems, useful, fragile, to be rediscovered.

The book on the barn owl will be available from April 26th at €12.50 plus the price of the newspaper. A new stage in an exciting journey through the symbolic fauna of the island: after the flamingos and the Giara ponies, the griffon vulture, the mouflon, the eagle and the Sardinian deer will also arrive.

An editorial project to collect, signed L'Unione Sarda and Ilisso. Because telling nature is also a way to protect it.
