Fifty years after the death of Barore Sassu, one of the most illustrious and beloved poets in Sardinian poetry competitions, his hometown is preparing to pay tribute. The municipal administration and the publishing house Domus de Janas, with the patronage of the Sardinia Region, are organizing the event "Ammentende a tiu Barore Sassu" in Banari today, Saturday, October 17th. An afternoon entirely dedicated to the memory of the great improvising poet from Banari. The event is scheduled for 5:30 pm in the multipurpose center on Via Lamarmora, located in the former middle school. Born in Banari in 1891, Barore Sassu left his mark on the history of improvised poetry with his extraordinary imagination and rigorous metrical perfection, qualities that endeared him to the public and that continue to live on in the memory of enthusiasts today. With a marked predilection for playful themes, yet capable of forcefully arguing and defending more serious ones, Sassu endured the harsh trench life of World War I and, at just twenty years old, was taken prisoner. After the conflict, he returned to Sardinia to devote himself to extemporaneous poetry, debuting on stage in 1919 and quickly gaining widespread fame throughout the island's squares. When the Church imposed ostracism and the ban on public performances, the poet was in his forties and at the height of his improvisational career, suffering the consequences of this ban more severely than others. Barore Sassu passed away in his hometown in 1976. The event, moderated by Mauro Piredda, will begin at 5:30 pm with a cultural and historical reflection. A conference will be held in the multipurpose center, featuring ethnomusicologist Bustianu Pilosu, journalist Piersandro Pillonca, and Sardinian poetry expert Cosimo Capra, who will provide an in-depth portrait of the poet and his artistic legacy. Following this, Barore Sassu will be celebrated through his art with "s'ammentu cantadu," a sung memorial performed by some of Sardinia's most important extemporaneous poets. Starting at 7:00 PM, Brunu Agus, Zosepe Porcu, Diegu Porcu, Dionisi Bitti, Tore Senes, Barore Iscanu, Badore Ladu, Nigola Farina, and Lisandru Arca will perform, accompanied by tenor de Orgòsolo.
