State fees for those who have beach concessions in Italy are too low. Flavio Briatore claims it in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

The entrepreneur takes as an example his Twiga, the exclusive seaside venue that he manages with his partner Daniela Santanchè in Forte dei Marmi. In 2022 it had a turnover of «ten million euros. And it would be right for me to pay five hundred thousand as a concession».

Twiga "has 150 employees, it's a very large structure," he admits. «Let's say instead that 80% of the bathrooms are the only entrance for the family. Where everyone works for six months, father, mother, children, brothers-in-law and then they close...».

Briatore's recipe is this: « I would start from the value of the area, because Catanzaro Mare is one thing and Portofino another. Then I'd do a tot with an umbrella. It doesn't take a genius to count umbrellas. A few months and the mapping is done».

«We've always paid little or nothing to the state property – he said – I think the State gets one hundred million a year… It should get 800. Or more. But it's all messed up. Starting with the power in the hands of the dealers. These must go. They are guys who sometimes had concessions decades ago, you know how, and today too often they exploit them without working on them and without producing anything. Zero".

Hence the conclusion: « Families who live only on that concession must be protected as much as possible . For me they shouldn't even do auctions. The others do: criteria are set and then the competitions are held. Serious criteria, though. If not, one of them, if he wants, buys all the surroundings».
