Monserrato, Tomaso Locci elected mayor for the third time

4.30pm. Tomaso Locci is once again mayor of Monserrato: elected for the third time, the outgoing man, at the head of a civic coalition, defeated his challenger from Campo Largo, Valentina Picciau, in the run-off.
Locci had been ahead since the first sections scrutinized: celebrations broke out among his supporters in the school in via San Gavino, where the result was expected. In the end the gap was only 146 preferences: Locci 4119 votes, Picciau 3973.

4pm. Data from the first sections begins to flow. The outgoing Locci is ahead by over one hundred preferences in each seat. In via San Gavino he received 309 votes against Picciau's 213. The gap widens in section 12: 306 to 169. In section 8 Locci 234 and Picciau 169. The centre-left candidate recovers in section 11, where she receives 195 preferences compared to 186 for the outgoing candidate.

3pm. Polls closed, counting begins in Monserrato for the ballot called to decree the new mayor of the town .
The definitive turnout is 47.13%, down compared to the first round when it was 56.57% .
The challenge is between the outgoing mayor Tommaso Locci , a civic member supported by three lists (Monserrato Libera, Monserrato Futura, Monserrato Metropolitana), and Valentina Picciau , supported by M5s, Progressisti-La Svolta, Pauli Monserrato, Uniti per Monserrato.
In the first round Locci had obtained 40.2% of the preferences, almost doubling Picciau (21.5%) . The M5s candidate in the ballot received the support of the Democratic Party, which after the defeat of its candidate Efisio Sanna, decided to support Picciau, also reforming in Monserrato the broad field that prevailed in the regional elections and in the main municipalities of the island, starting from Cagliari.
