Cultural encounters, novels, art, and archaeology. Four events at the Daniele Lai Library for the "Autumn of Books" series, an offshoot of the literary festival "Sette Sere Sette Piazze Sette Libri." The cultural event is conceived and organized by the Perdasdefogu Pro Loco, led by President Vittorino Murgia.
We begin on November 6th at 5:30 pm with "Dentro la borsa" (Inside the Bag), published by Il Maestrale, by Francesca Spanu . This intense novel extols the value of friendship and sisterhood and addresses the contradictions of our time. Cristina and Lidia, the book's unforgettable protagonists, seemingly distant from one another, form a strong bond of support and understanding. Francesca Spanu is a lawyer and legal advisor for the "Feminas" anti-violence center and for the "Progetto Respiro" project for special needs orphans. Since September 2025, she has been a member of the 10th regional commission for the implementation of equal opportunities between men and women. Since 2019, she has directed the Monreale Literary Festival.
On November 13th, Antonio Boggio will present, again at 5:30 pm, "Nero Mediterraneo , an investigation by Alvise Terranova," published by Mondadori. A fishing boat carrying several migrants arrives in Carloforte. The morning after landing, the lifeless body of a young woman is discovered on a nearby beach. She is Brigitta Mura, a nineteen-year-old who was due to leave shortly afterward for Genoa to study. Around the same time as the discovery, it is learned that one of the refugees on the fishing boat had escaped from the reception center during the night. Many are ready to accuse the fugitive of murder. The investigation is entrusted to Alvise Terranova, who shies away from simplistic resolutions of the case. Antonio Boggio was born and raised in Carloforte, lives and works in Cagliari, after the first two novels featuring Terranova, published by Piemme, the series continued in Giallo Mondadori with the novel Assassinio all'Isola di San Pietro.
The penultimate appointment of Autumn of Books, Thursday, November 26, at 5:30 pm, with Chiara Gatti and the book "Under a Good Star, Stars and Comets of Art," published by Interlinea. Giotto was the first to depict the comet, one of the symbols of the anticipation of Christmas. The artist personally saw Halley's Comet in 1301. He imagined it beneath the skies of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth. Chiara Gatti takes us on a journey through the works of artists inspired and bewitched by stars and comets "bright as the sun," from Dürer to Turner, from Van Gogh, with his famous Starry Night, to our own wartime era, with Banksy's grenade hole in a wall in Palestine. "Under a Good Star" is an essay that explores the theme of the stars, and comets in the history of art. The star is a sacred symbol, an element of anguish, mystery, a link to the sublime, a message from the infinite. The star is finally a wound suspended over the nativity scene. A glimmer of peace in the drama of conflict. Chiara Gatti is an art historian and critic. She writes for "Repubblica," "Il Venerdì," and "Robinson." She is the director of the MAN Museum in Nuoro and the Nivola Museum in Orani. On December 27, Valentina Prunas, an archaeologist, will present her master's thesis, a postgraduate diploma in classical Mediterranean archaeology from the University of Leicester . "Following the success of the sixteenth edition of Sette Sere Sette Piazze Sette Libri, we have prepared a fall lineup featuring prominent names from the world of Italian culture," said the president of the Pro Loco, Vittorino Murgia. "Reading is life" is the slogan of our festival; it's our idea of bringing people together around books, of promoting books and reading." The evenings will be presented by journalist Francesca Lai. "Autumn of Books" is organized by Pro Loco Perdasdefogu thanks to the contribution of the Fondazione di Sardegna, with the patronage of the Sardinia Region and the Municipality of Perdasdefogu.
