Jannik Sinner's run continues unabated, advancing to the Australian Open quarterfinals, this time without the hindrance of cramp . The ATP number 2 needed just over two hours to win the Italian derby against Luciano Darderi .
Sinner closed the match easily in three sets (6-1; 6-3; 7-6) recording a new personal best in a Grand Slam: 19 aces and 0 double faults . The match had only one master in the first two sets, with Darderi clearly struggling to keep up with the pace of the rallies.
The final set, however, was a different story, as Darderi fought hard, forcing Jannik to a tiebreak . Once again, the match was decided thanks to Sinner's impeccable serve.
"I've made some changes to my movement in the last few months," Sinner said at the end of the match, referring to his serve. "I'm satisfied, but there's still room for improvement." The Italian champion is now through to the quarterfinals, where he'll face the winner of the Shelton-Ruud match.
