Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz avoid each other in the round robin of the ATP Finals, which returns to Turin for the fourth year, from 10 to 17 November at the Inalpi Arena.
In his group, dedicated to Ilie Nastase, the South Tyrolean will have as rivals Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex De Minaur, at his first time at the Finals. And it is with the latter that the Sinner tournament begins, on Sunday evening. In the other group, the 'John Newcombe', Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev will compete for access to the next phase, while the other Italians in the tournament, the doubles pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, will challenge Marcelo Aravalo-Mate Pavic, Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden, Kevin Krawietz-Tim Puetz. The first two in each group advance.
Edition number four in Turin that aims to be renewed for another 5 years. Single tickets alone have already sold over 131 thousand, to which are added season tickets and other types of tickets. "We have done a great job together, for an even bigger event, which for the second time in a row beats the historical record of paying spectators for an indoor sporting event. The capacity has been expanded, 183 thousand seats, and to date the filling is 98.89%, with spectators from 101 nations", announces the Fitp president, Angelo Binaghi.
There is a boom in Italian spectators, thanks to the Sinner effect, who have 'stolen' the place of many foreigners. "We as a Federation can only be happy - says Binaghi - the more Italians participate in the event the more tennis becomes central to the life of the country, even for training there is a triple request compared to last year. It is the confirmation that today there is no arena in our country capable of satisfying the desire for tennis in Italy".
In the Wta Finals underway in Riyadh, Errani and Paolini remain empty-handed, third in their group after one win and two losses and therefore out of the semifinals. The Olympic doubles champions today lost in the decisive match of the group against Chan-Kudermetova: 3-6, 7-6, 11-9 the score.
