The future of Sardinia, including healthcare, 41 bis, energy transition, and the Einstein Telescope. Regional President Alessandra Todde and MP and regional secretary of the Democratic Party, Silvio Lai, held a wide-ranging discussion at the Regional Unity Festival in Alghero. It was an opportunity to balance the assessment of the first two and a half years of the legislature with the major issues still unresolved on the island.
Team play
The president first emphasized the coalition method. "In Sardinia, we govern as a team, and this is our secret," she said, emphasizing the recovery of significant resources, the unblocking of construction sites, and investments in young people. "We have worked for the new generations; our revitalization plan could be the Einstein Telescope, a project for the next thirty years. We must fight tooth and nail to bring it to Sardinia."
Among the topics of the debate, moderated by Giacomo Bedeschi, editor of Nuova Sardegna, was the struggling healthcare system. The president advocates for a reorganization of the network: "Not every hospital can do everything. We need to distinguish between large facilities, intermediate hospitals, and local health facilities." Silvio Lai made no secret of the gravity of the situation, stating that it is perhaps the sector that is hurting citizens the most.
According to the Democratic Party secretary, it is necessary to acknowledge the existing difficulties, without minimizing them, "to clearly identify a direction of travel."
The prison island
Another thorny issue is Article 41 bis. Todde attacked the government for concentrating so many inmates subjected to harsh prison conditions on the island, without consulting the Region. "It's an arrogant and unilateral decision," he said, announcing an appeal to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) and also raising the issue of additional prison healthcare costs.

Lai added further numbers: "Here, half of Italian prisoners are at risk of being placed under the 41-bis regime. And two years after the first 41-bis prisoners arrived in Bancali, Sardinia was cited in the National Anti-Mafia Directorate's report."
On energy, the president reiterated: "We accept the challenge and take responsibility for the energy transition, but no one should tell us where we should build the plants." On the sidelines of the meeting, she assured that Campo Largo is working well in several regions: "We've united, we have our own chat, and now we'll fight together for healthcare. We're united and cohesive. And we'll fight for a progressive national government as well."
