A concert to welcome the new academic year of the " Canepa " musical institute but also an opportunity to remember two illustrious figures. The Teatro Comunale di Sassari welcomed the opening of the academic year of the "Luigi Canepa" Conservatory last night with the concert of the symphony orchestra directed by Mattia Rondelli and the choir prepared by the teachers Clara Antoniciello and Claudia Dolce .

Absolute Sardinian premiere for the Concerto for timpani and orchestra op. 34 (1954) by the German Werner Thärichen, with his pupil Nicola Masala as solo timpanist. The song was dedicated to the late Gigi Riva , not only a sporting icon of Sardinia. A plaque in homage to the champion of Cagliari and the national team was collected by Jack Devecchi, historic captain and new general director of Dinamo Basket Sassari, delivered by the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, Colonel Massimiliano Pricchiazzi.

At the opening, the Mameli Hymn and the memory of Giuseppe Saccu, for many years a teacher of choral singing at the Sassari Conservatory, who recently passed away. Canepa dedicated the motet Ave verum corpus K618 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to him, giving his son Daniele a plaque in memory of the many years spent at the Conservatory.

The second part of the evening opened with the presentation of the "A symphony for..." prize, awarded this year to Alessandro Moccia, violinist of Cagliari origin, former first violin of the Orchester des Champs-Élysées of Paris, of the Westdeutschen orchestra Rundfunk of Cologne and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Davide Casu, a young violinist of the Conservatory Orchestra and a student of Alessandro Moccia, collected the award, presented by the prefect of Sassari Grazia La Fauci. The symphony chosen this year is the only one written by César Franck, the Symphony in D minor FWV48.
