The lyricism of Northern Europe meets the ancient stones of Sardinia. On Saturday, August 22nd, at 9:00 PM, the event presented by the 2026 Musica sulle Bocche International Festival will take place at the Palmavera Nuragic complex in Alghero , featuring the trio of Icelandic pianist Sunna Gunnlaugs , one of the most respected figures in contemporary European jazz.
Joining her on stage will be American drummer Scott McLemore and double bassist Salvatore Maiore , for a formation that brings together Iceland, the United States and Sardinia in the name of an intimate, elegant and deeply expressive jazz.
An Icelandic pianist and composer who also trained in the New York scene, Sunna Gunnlaugs has built an international career over twenty-five years, developing a language in which the lyricism and clarity of Nordic sensibility meet the improvisational freedom and rhythmic pulse of jazz. She has released 15 albums for Sunny Sky Records and has twice been named Performer of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards, while her recordings have received nominations for the same awards. Gunnlaugs has performed at prestigious international festivals, and her music has been featured in publications such as The Washington Post, DownBeat, Jazzwise, Jazzthetik, Musica Jazz, and Time Out New York.
The Icelandic artist was Vice President of the European Jazz Network and Artistic Director of the Reykjavik Jazz Festival and is the founder of Freyjujazz, a festival dedicated to promoting women in jazz.
