Nikolas Nägele , German conductor, pianist and clarinetist, returns to the podium of the Cagliari Opera House on 21 October (at 8.30pm) and 22nd (at 7pm) for the twelfth appointment of the 2022 Concert Season.

He will conduct the theater orchestra in a symphonic concert with a fascinating romantic-decadent atmosphere on the notes of Franck and Rachmaninov .

The program includes the Symphony in D minor by César Franck and Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances .

Composed between 1886 and 1888, the Symphony in D minor by César Franck represents the most famous work of the Franco-Belgian musician . Performed for the first time on February 17, 1889 at the Society of Concerts of the Paris Conservatory, it was initially “branded” by critics as exaggeratedly close to German symphony, especially Wagner and, consequently, not very French. Then, in the following years, the consecration.

The Symphonic Dances, suite for orchestra, the last work composed in 1940 by the Russian naturalized American composer, pianist and conductor, was performed for the first time on January 3, 1941 by the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Eugène Ormandy.

Despite the year and place of composition, the piece is very different from twentieth-century poetics and, on the other hand, comes close to the Russian themes so loved by the author: vast instrumental ensemble, folkloric topic, religious and ethnic themes.
