The ANPI “Marisa Musu” section of Alghero intends to pay homage to the figure of Giacomo Matteotti a century after his assassination, which occurred on 10 June 1924 at the hands of the fascists. Matteotti dedicated his life to defending the humblest social classes and fighting fascism and the ANPI pays homage to him with a dramatized reading at the Civic Theater of Alghero, Friday 19 July at 9pm.

Even though one hundred years have passed since then, his message remains more relevant than ever. «The words we used are taken from “M. The son of the century" by Antonio Scurati, in which we found an in-depth and not obvious portrait of the man Matteotti along the different phases of his life: the election as deputy in November 1919, the rally in Fratta Polesine, 12 October 1920, the direction of the Chamber of Labor in Ferrara and the second legislature on January 1921, the kidnapping in Castelguglielmo by the fascists on 12 March 1921, the exile from his homeland under pain of death, the separation from his wife Velia and the exchange of melancholy letters throughout 1922, the fear of the March on Rome, the fire at the family home, the exhausting work of denouncing all the fascist violence, collected in the book “Contro il fascismo. A year of fascist domination (1924)”, the courage to contest the elections in the speech of 30 May 1924, ending with “I have made my speech. Now you prepare the funeral oration", the possession of compromising documents for the regime and for Mussolini's family. At the end of the theatrical reading, Corifeo will read the pages of Scurati's book which tell the story of the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti", explain the organizers.
