Guest of the column, conducted by the journalist Fabrizio Meloni, head of Communications and External Relations of the Aou of Cagliari, will be Dr. Monica Pilloni, from the menopause clinic of the Duilio Casula Polyclinic.
Menopause is not a disease but a physiological moment in a woman's life. It usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age, in the period coinciding with the end of fertility, but early and late menopauses are not uncommon.
In this process, the ovaries cease their activity and, consequently, the amount of estrogens, i.e. those hormones produced up to then, decreases in the blood. The decrease in these hormones can cause some disturbances and symptoms, both of a neurovegetative nature - hot flushes, profuse sweating, palpitations, etc. - and of a psycho-affective nature - irritability, fatigue, anxiety, concentration and memory disturbances, decreased sexual desire .
The most important consequences of the drop in estrogen are: the increase in cardiovascular risk and osteoarticular pathologies, in particular the increase in the incidence of osteoporosis. The menopause clinic of the Duilio Casula Polyclinic has been taking care of women who in this physiological period suffer from disorders for which there are treatments and remedies that are useful to guarantee them a good quality of life.
The talk “15 minutes with…” is edited by Aou Cagliari News, the newspaper of the university hospital. An agile and simple format, it includes 15 minutes of discussions with specialists and the possibility for the public to ask questions live.
