Guest of the column, conducted by the journalist Fabrizio Meloni, head of Communications and External Relations of the Aou of Cagliari, will be Professor Antonio Capone, director of the Orthopedics of the Duilio Casula Polyclinic.

Joints are complex systems of connections between bone segments. Among the main degenerative pathologies we certainly find arthrosis, a disease of the joints with a chronic and progressive evolution.

Degenerative lesions concern the entire structure of the joint, involving the cartilage, the bone under the joint, the tendon insertions, muscles and ligaments.

There are many factors that can alter joint balance. In the course of ageing, the articular cartilage undergoes alterations and numerous mechanical "stresses" such as improper stresses, obesity, trauma, recreational and occupational activities which can lead to a thickening of the bone through microfractures and suffering of the covering cartilage.

The Orthopedics of the Duilio Casula Polyclinic deals with the main pathologies affecting the joints with the latest generation of instruments and a professional and multidisciplinary approach.

The talk “15 minutes with…” is edited by Aou Cagliari News, the newspaper of the university hospital. An agile and simple format, it includes 15 minutes of discussions with specialists and the possibility for the public to ask questions live.
