Reconstructing the social fabric of Asinara, family groups and their origins before being driven off the island in 1885, when the Italian government forcibly removed them from their land to set up an agricultural penal colony and a health station for quarantine.
In Porto Torres was born the first association that unites Turritani with Stintino, a group made up of descendants of the historic families who lived in Asinara until 1885, the year in which they were deprived of their homes and their lands, forcibly removed from their place of residence. For many of them it was a real drama: bewildered and abandoned, they bought land in the area of today's Stintino to give rise to the new village originally called Cala Savoia. The area that was located between two arms of the sea then took the name of isthintìnu or sthintìnu, from the Sassari term "intestine or gut", later Italianized into Stintino.
"The association intends to reconstruct the composition of the families who inhabited the island at the time of abandonment, to protect and preserve the bond of descent - explains Giuseppina Perla, president of the new association "Sinarischa Community" Isola dell'Asinara study center - including the period before the evacuation, the number of livestock taken away from Asinara, the crops, the census of houses and animals, as well as the number of fishermen who left the coves, the relationship with other communities».
The mayors of Stintino and Porto Torres, Rita Vallebella and Massimo Mulas, the director of the park, Vittorio Gazale, and the presidents of the council of both municipalities, Agostino Schiaffino and Franco Satta, who announced the convening of the first municipal council, took part in the presentation. on the island between the two administrations.
The association also intends to promote the creation of a museum of historical memory, of examples of typical houses of the families of fishermen, farmers and peasants, equipped with domestic and professional furnishings of the time.
