Vanessa Ferrari retires and bids farewell to the world of artistic gymnastics. For the Italian, silver medalist in Tokyo and the first Italian individual Olympic medalist, "the time has come to say enough."

The 33-year-old gymnast explains that "I had already decided before Paris: the Olympics would be the last act of my competitive career. I wanted it to be the end of my career. I'm sorry it wasn't like that. I'm calm. Physically, the injuries are making themselves felt."

The athlete, who hoped to compete at the Paris Games, was unable to participate in the Olympics due to yet another injury.
