The 2021 excavation campaign conducted by the University of Bologna in the Nuragic area of Tanca Manna, in Nuoro, has ended.
The results were illustrated by the director of the excavations Maurizio Cattani, professor of Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Bologna, and by the archaeologists Demis Murgia, Rossana Conti and Paulo Mazza, in the presence of the superintendent of the Archaeological Heritage of Sassari and Nuoro, Gianluigi Marras. and Enrico Dirminti.
The activity has made it possible to bring to light new discoveries that allow us to reconstruct the characteristics of the settlement with ever greater accuracy, such as dimensions and methods of construction, and the customs of the ancient inhabitants.
One of the exceptional finds concerns a fragment of pintadera (an archaeological find with a circular shape, characterized by a geometric design) which coincides perfectly with another discovered in the sixties by the archaeologist Ercole Contu, during the first excavation campaign carried out in the area.
The research also made it possible to find other remains of huts around the nuraghe, bringing the total number unearthed up to now to ten.
The discoveries will be useful to enrich the virtual reconstruction of the settlement thanks to which, with the special viewer, it will be possible to immerse yourself in the environment of 3600 years ago.
In the area adjacent to the archaeological one, the houses, with the help of the Forestas agency, will be recreated in life size and furnished with reproductions of the furnishings found by archaeologists.
The activities inside the park are not limited to archaeological research alone. In addition to the canonical visits, the enhancement of the area also passes through the organization of workshops for children, teenagers and adults, in which the participants try their hand at making clay pots, in the dough and baking of bread and can attend the bronze casting with ancient techniques. In addition, the youngest visitors are involved in the simulation of an archaeological excavation.
“The area of Tanca Manna - said the mayor Andrea Soddu - represents a flagship of our city, both from an archaeological, cultural and recreational point of view. Thanks to its recovery and enhancement, we always discover new things about the life and habits of our ancient ancestors and, at the same time, we redevelop the neighborhood by equipping it with a livable park for children and adults ".
“We have already renewed the agreement with the University of Bologna for the next excavation campaign - announced the Councilor for the Environment Valeria Romagna -. Together with the archaeologists Demis Murgia and Rossana Conti, the university is doing an excellent job and continuing in continuity is essential to enhance the park and provide citizens and tourists with a corner in which to spend moments in the name of history and culture".
