Following the announcement by Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, it's official: Ancona is the Italian Capital of Culture 2028. Present at the announcement, in the Ministry's Spadolini Hall in Rome, was the jury chaired by Davide Maria Desario and composed of Luca Galassi, Vincenzo Trione, Luisa Piacentini, Vicky Diquattro, Davide Rossi, and Stefano Baia Curioni.

This is the second title of Italian Capital of Culture for the Marche region, following Pesaro in 2024. The winning city will receive a grant of €1 million to implement the cultural program presented in the candidacy dossier. The dossier is titled "Ancona. Questo adesso," taken from a passage by the Ancona-born poet Francesco Scarabicchi . Collaborators on the project include Oscar winner Dante Ferretti and musician Dardust .

"The dossier fully meets the call's criteria," Giuli stated, "and presents itself as a model of innovative, sustainable, and shared cultural planning. The assessment is excellent, and therefore the Commission unanimously recommends Ancona as the Italian Capital of Culture 2028."

"I'm very excited," said Ancona's mayor, Daniele Silvetti, " despite having served as a public administrator for several years. This title is a very important achievement for the community, for the city, and for the entire region. Significant work has been done to create a competitive and original dossier, capable of conveying the various aspects of our socio-cultural fabric. The project's primary goal was to harmonize the relationship between archaeology, architecture, and the environment , given that we have a park that extends all the way to the city. We've done a good job, and I say this as a mayor among the mayors of the other finalist cities."
