An internal investigation will reconstruct how a "passenger" without documents or a ticket managed to board a plane bound for Milan . ENAC (Italian National Civil Aviation Authority) has launched an investigation to reconstruct what happened last July 13 at Cagliari airport.

The protagonist is a fifty-year-old man from Quartu with mental health issues who managed to evade all security checks: he bypassed the first barrier, which should only be passed by scanning his ticket, he passed through the scanner where he passed his trolley, and then he was not stopped at the gate, where he was required to show his ticket and ID.

His clandestine status was discovered only on board the plane: he occupied an already assigned seat and, when the owner arrived to claim it, he didn't have the "foresight" to move without being discovered for what he was: a squatter.

The airport environment is taking the incident very seriously. The crucial system that is supposed to ensure security at Elmas Airport has been affected. ENAC's reconstruction will rely on images from the internal video surveillance systems, which, according to leaks—very little, given the strictest confidentiality—have already been reviewed.
