An intelligent harness to prevent accidents at work : this is the idea of the Nautical Institute of Tortolì awarded as the best innovative idea in the field of sustainable mobility, renewable energy and home automation.

The project won the final hackathon in which five Sardinian institutes challenged each other - also the Meucci, Buccari, Giua and Marconi of Cagliari -, an initiative promoted by the Technological Demonstrator of Opificio Innova with the Foundation of Sardinia and Innois .

The idea of the students of Tortolì aims to tackle a deeply felt problem: accidents at work, especially those in the construction sector. The goal is to create safe and dignified working conditions capable of strengthening the productive capacity of the workforce.

Presented by a team of very young people - a second class composed mainly of female students - the project is based on a system of sensors applied on a classic harness capable of detecting the state of wear of the material, setting up an "anti-tear" alarm connected to an operations center or an app managed by the employer or by the persons in charge of the safety of the workers, a double safety belt similar to the one that exists today for parachutes and a count of the time of use of the equipment able to prevent breakages or other inconveniences likely to cause accidents or even the death of the worker.

The project was presented by the student Maria Angius who revealed during the presentation phase how the idea was born following the many cases of accidents that have affected workers in recent months, with particular references to those students engaged in school alternation - jobs that have found themselves working in companies without any security conditions and with very poor controls.

Maria Saba , Sofia Piga , Daniel Tegas and Damiano Luzzi were also part of the team. To them a cash prize of 500 euros that they can use to develop their idea with the aim of transforming it into a real product to be placed on the market. And with the support of Opificio Innova , available to young people with its own team of experts and innovators.

The final challenge, which took place in the spaces of the Manifattura Tabacchi in Cagliari , was anticipated by five challenges between the various schools in Sardinia that took place during the school year. The winning team from each school then participated in the final hackathon.

The students were helped in the development of the idea by two tutors. Objective: to create a product capable of responding to a particular need of daily life while respecting the environment and the context in which one lives.
