The Intrecci Culturali association and the Michele Giua association are participating in and have supported the exhibition "Weaving Peace. Homage to Guernica. Roots in the Past, Ideas for the Future," which opened on Saturday in Castelsardo at the Antico Episcopio, Via Vittorio Emanuele 29. The exhibition will be open to the public until October 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Picasso's famous painting, Guernica, is a vivid representation of infinite darkness: the horror of horrors, the anguish, the black and white. As the members of Intrecci Culturali point out: "Looking at photos of Gaza today, even the color ones, what is striking is the incredible resemblance to Guernica. The mothers have the same eyes, their hands raised toward a seemingly unresponsive sky, the noise that explodes in the silence of us spectators who, as Picasso reminded the Nazi soldiers, 'you painted the picture of Gaza.'"
These images were reconstructed on a loom and reproduced with raw wool, with a truly astonishing effect. The work was created under the creative direction of Graziella Carta's Pratha studio and with the tireless work of the women who, using the loom, spent five months of patient dedication to faithfully reproduce eight panels inspired by Picasso's masterpiece.
On this occasion, the Carta di s'Aspru was also discussed, along with the hope that those signatures could reach Gaza, together with the awareness that Picasso's painting and the beautiful coarse wool carpets that reinterpret it could become only works of art - and no longer terrible testimonies of authority and violence.
