America's Cup of sailing: Cagliari still protagonist
The capital is still the logistics center of Luna Rossa. Meeting of the Region with New Zealand and the Italian team: the aim is to host a competition for the preparation of the prestigious trophy

"The project of the Region that wants to invest in major sporting events to promote Sardinia throughout the world continues. We discussed with the organizers the possibility of hosting a competition in Cagliari, in October 2023, as part of the preparation activity. at the America's Cup 2024 , which would have as protagonists the five international sailing crews aiming to conquer the most famous and important trophy in world sailing ".
The announcement is made by the regional councilor for tourism, Gianni Chessa , at the end of the meeting with the representatives of Team New Zealand , the chief executive Grant Dalton and the team principal Matteo De Nora , accompanied by Max Sirena of Luna Rossa .
"Cagliari would host the crews, staff and fans for at least the four days of competition, but the teams usually precede the competitive event with at least ten days of training on the race course , with an obvious economic impact on the territory - added Chessa. - We are also assuming an outline of nautical and sailing events that would anticipate the event of exceptional sporting level, the first and only one far from Barcelona, the official seat of the 2024 edition of the America's Cup. It would be a highly visible event for Sardinia , also thanks to the international media coverage, not only from specialized newspapers, especially television. An important promotional investment by the Region for an autumn event of international level with the aim of seasonally adjusting tourist flows and lengthening the season ".
Meanwhile , Luna Rossa has already confirmed Cagliari as the logistics center to prepare for the next America's Cup. "It would also be a further step in the transformation of Sardinia into a sailing pole in the Mediterranean, alongside the project with other initiatives, such as the re-edition of the Nautical Fair in Olbia. The Region strongly believes in sports tourism as a fundamental tool for the promotion of Sardinia ", concluded the exponent of the Giunta Solinas.
