The long wait is over for Amatori Rugby Capoterra; the time has come to return to the field. Their debut in the 2026/27 Serie B national championship is scheduled for Sunday, October 18th in the capital, where the Sardinian team will face the second division team Fiamme Oro. The match will be played at the Pasquale Giannattasio Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 PM.
The event kicks off a particularly significant year for the Capoterra-based club, which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. This milestone has been achieved through generations of athletes and managers, reflecting the passion for sport that has driven the club since 1976.
The league also features a significant change: the Sardinians have been placed in Group 5, along with teams from Lazio and Abruzzo. This is a new grouping for Capoterra, who will face opponents they have never faced before in this competition.
Proven rose and new additions for the season
The team arrives at the first matchday after a preparation process that began in July with the core of local players and continued in September with the reunion of the entire squad.
The core of the group is the same one that secured third place last season, with several confirmed players ready to build on their performances in the 2025/26 championship. These include Petrakopoulos and Valentine, who stood out for their contributions in key moments last season.
The forwards are enhanced with Mattia Piazzalunga, left prop, while Murray Ferreira brings new options at scrum-half and center. Rounding out the summer signings is Argentine Manuel Torres. These three additions aim to increase the options available to the staff and make the group more competitive throughout the season.
A challenging exam right away
The first obstacle promises to be anything but simple. Fiamme Oro can benefit from the experience and organization of a rugby organization that fields its first team in the top national league, Serie A Elite. These factors make the Roman team a strong contender for a leading role in the group.
For Capoterra, this will be a significant test right from the opening day. The away match will allow them to assess the work done during preparation and gather initial insights into the team's potential in a new and uncertain championship.
The Giallorossi's ambition is to maintain their high level and improve on last season's achievements. The journey, however, begins in Rome, on a pitch that will require concentration, discipline, and a solid performance.
The match will be refereed by Fabio Paolucci, from L'Aquila.
For Amatori Rugby Capoterra, the fiftieth anniversary begins like this: with a new challenge, a group to master, and the desire to transform a historic anniversary into a season to remember.
