More than a thousand animated short films compete for one of the 50 places available for the final selection at the Sardinia Film Festival , scheduled in Alghero from 27 September to 2 October.

The works come from 80 countries around the world and are currently being examined by the commission chaired by the artistic director Luca Raffaelli .

About a hundred come from Italy, but there is also a strong team of authors from the United States, France and Iran, represented by about 60 works each, followed by Brazil and India with over 40 works, and then China, Turkey, Great Britain and Germany , each with about thirty productions. The presence of three Ukrainian courts is significant.

"The films viewed - explains Raffaelli - are characterized both by their manufacturing and technical accuracy, and by the subjects and topics covered, often linked to current events: environmental issues, war, gender identity, the female question emerge. . The presence of women is conspicuous, representing over 50% of the candidates; an important sign in a sector such as that of animation which in the past has seen them too little protagonists ".

The staff of the Cineclub Sassari together with the artistic director are at work to fine-tune the review chaired by the director and producer Cristian Jezdic and created in collaboration with Asifa , the Italian association of animated films and cartoon Italy. In addition to the screenings of the 50 shorts, there will be a section in competition dedicated to feature films, five will be selected. Every day a space will be reserved for them and the one out of competition created by one of the renowned guests of 2022 will be screened at the opening. their experience and their art in the masterclass course for professionals. But they will also be involved in a series of meetings with schools to spread the knowledge and culture of animated cinema.
