To celebrate the bond between the sea and cinema, and to relaunch Alghero's candidacy as a city of cinema in Sardinia, the "Cinema delle Terre del Mare" festival returns.

The event, which takes place from July 5 to 20 (with a preview today), is a journey through screenings, readings, masterclasses, film tourism itineraries and books, all dedicated to the history between the sea and the seventh art. The festival, in its 13th edition, is a traveling event that moves between bays, coves, beaches, historic urban spaces and, for the first time, also in fascinating places such as the open-air mine of Argentiera and Santa Teresa Gallura.

It is promoted by the Alghero Cultural Services Centre of the Società Umanitaria, with the artistic direction of Alessandra Sento, the support of the Sardinia Region, the Municipality of Alghero, the Alghero Foundation, the Sardinia Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce of Sassari-Progetto Salude & Trigu.

Alessandra Sento, artistic director of the festival, explains: «This year we feel ready to take our journey between land and sea beyond the borders of Alghero. Arthouse cinema, free and independent, will also accompany us to Santa Teresa Gallura and Argentiera. To thank those who have always followed us, we have established the Audience Award, which will be awarded to the films of the afternoon section Immersioni».

This edition features 16 titles, with independent productions by young directors and films presented at the most important international festivals. Among the notable names are the Danish director Jacob M›ller with the producer Charlotte Hjordt, the director Sara Fgaier, the Corsican director Frédéric Farrucci and the Greek actor Symeon Tsakiris. Also eagerly awaited is Cristiano Godano, frontman of Marlene Kuntz, who will hold a reading on the environment together with the philosopher Telmo Pievani. For the first time, the festival's offerings are divided into three sections: Immersioni, which every evening at 6 pm at Lo Quarter presents the films nominated for the Audience Award; Archipelagos, with evening screenings on the beach or in the city centre at 10 pm; Tuffi, dedicated to children between 5 and 10 years old.
