Aeroitalia has decided to cancel 12 flights a week in August, the key month for tourism in Sardinia, all on the Alghero-Rome route.

The anger of Michele Pais, regional coordinator of the League in Sardinia and municipal councilor of Alghero, is unleashed: «The concern is that it could also spread to Milan, thus resulting in a total disaster».

Alarming news, declares Pais, «which once again undermines the right to mobility of Sardinians and risks compromising the summer season , as well as creating significant damage, once again, to the operation of Alghero airport, bringing up the rear of the Sardinian ports". The flights at risk of cancellation, to which the territorial continuity regime had been extended, «represent not only an essential service for the right to mobility of Sardinians, but also a necessary element of support for the tourism industry , which could suffer yet another hard blow, with negative repercussions on the employment levels of the airport and the tourism sector. The reduction in available seats will inevitably lead to an increase in airline ticket prices, penalizing the Island ."

«We do not know the reasons for this decision, whether it is the start of the demobilization already announced for October , whether there are problems linked to the Region's co-marketing policies, or whatever the cause, the effect will, as always, be that of damaging the citizens and tourist operators of the area – concludes Pais -. We immediately ask for the intervention of President Todde, the regional councilor, who could not have failed to know, and the Alghero municipal council so that a solution can be quickly found by restoring the routes."

Meanwhile, the regional councilor of the League, Alessandro Sorgia, announces the immediate presentation of a question : «President Todde and her council are increasingly proving to be inadequate for everything. Not only is the health emergency now out of control, the assault on wind power and now also on transport shows that they don't know what to do, harming the Sardinians."
