Alcohol and health: risks during pregnancy: monitoring in Sassari
The family counseling center offers services and advice to expectant mothers.Worldwide, 10% of women consume alcohol during pregnancy, and approximately 15 out of 10,000 children are affected by fetal alcohol syndrome and fetal alcohol disorders. Prevention is essential, even when a simple gesture, like drinking a glass of wine, can have serious repercussions on the unborn child in pregnant women.
At the Local Health Authority (ASL) 1 in Sassari, a monitoring program has been underway since last December . The family counseling center, located in the Rizzeddu health complex, offers expectant mothers a range of services and consultations provided by specially trained staff. Practical advice is provided, such as dispelling the belief that aperitifs, beer, wine, or spirits, even if consumed sporadically, are not harmful. In reality, there is no safe dose, and abstinence is the best course of action.
