Artificial intelligence is a runaway train, but where is it taking our culture and the world of creativity? On December 19th at 4 pm, the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Cagliari hosts the debate and comparison to explore the new frontiers of AI with the conference “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges for Creativity and Culture”.
Organized by the Italian Youth Association for Unesco Sardinia with the support of the Fondazione Sardegna, the patronage of the University of Cagliari and the Order of Architects of Cagliari, and in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and the research body RiSSTE, the free event was created with the aim of being a compass to navigate in an increasingly complex scenario.
According to recent studies, such as the one conducted by SWG for Johnson & Johnson, 93% of young people say they know what AI is. And it's not just theoretical curiosity: according to the report "New ways of working" by Gi Group Holding and Microsoft Italia, in the first half of 2024 the demand for skills related to generative AI increased by 246% compared to the previous year. We are therefore facing a revolution destined to redesign the world of work, but not only: art, culture, education and creativity are already experiencing a profound change.
And here arise the great questions that cross our consciences: can AI really be a traveling companion for artists and creatives? Or does it risk turning into a relentless competitor, capable of extinguishing human genius? Can cultural education be enriched thanks to the potential of artificial intelligence, or does it run the risk of losing authenticity and depth? And above all: for young people, will AI be a springboard towards new job opportunities or a threat that dries up traditional jobs?
The conference will seek to shed light on these questions, involving experts and enthusiasts to reflect together on the future of our society. In an era in which AI is seen as both a tool and a challenge, understanding how to direct this revolution will be essential to keep our creativity and cultural identity alive.
