The 7:00 a.m. takeoff didn't happen. Yesterday, getting to Cagliari from Rome, at least in the morning, was like yet another ordeal. And by now, there are too many such odysseys on Sardinian Territorial Continuity flights.

The flight from Fiumicino to the capital was scheduled to take off at 7:00 AM sharp. Instead, the flight was cancelled. Aeroitalia, the airline that was awarded five of the six routes under the new Air Continuity tender (from Cagliari and Olbia to the capital, plus the Alghero-Rome route), cancelled the departure . Passengers were re-protected on the next flight, the 9:30 AM one. But to add insult to injury, the Boeing touched down in Cagliari at 10:40 AM, instead of touching down at 11:20 AM.

Passengers couldn't believe their eyes when they realized that President Alessandra Todde was also waiting for the 9:30 flight. Yesterday, she "experienced firsthand the inconveniences we experience daily," the protest went on. Indeed, a cancellation and a delay followed one after the other. The result: Sardinians (and others) who had planned to land in Cagliari at 8:10 were only able to do so after a good three hours.

Gaetano Intrieri, CEO of Aeroitalia, was summoned to the Regional Government shortly after to review this ongoing Continuity, which continues to be flawed . This is the first time Todde has called him to report, which must mean something. Also because on June 26, Transport Councillor Barbara Manca issued a formal warning to the airline, which is being blamed for the ongoing disruptions to its flights.
