The Institutional Committee of the Basin Authority has given the green light to the updates of the Management Plan of the Hydrographic District of Sardinia and of the Flood Risk Management Plan.

Both documents are the result of a process in which the regional administration, the regional system agencies, but also the academic world, experts and stakeholders, local authorities, professional associations, associations and citizens have been involved.

The Management Plan of the Hydrographic District of Sardinia (envisaged by the Framework Directive on Water) outlines a uniform framework at EU level regarding water resources, for the protection of all waters - internal surface, transitional waters, coastal and underground waters - in order to ensure the reduction of pollution, facilitate sustainable water use, protect the environment, improve the conditions of aquatic ecosystems and mitigate the effects of floods and drought, also through the active involvement of the various territorial subjects and communities . Specifically, the document presents analyzes regarding the entire system of water bodies of the island basin, the detection of pressures and impacts, an overview of protected areas, an examination of the state of surface and groundwater, economic analysis, the environmental objectives and, as an operational tool, the program of measures to be adopted.

The Flood Risk Management Plan, on the other hand, aims to reduce the consequences of floods on human health, the environment and society. It extends to the entire regional territory of Sardinia and integrates, coordinating them, with the other existing plans for the mitigation of hydrogeological risk, namely the Hydrogeological Asset Plan and the Extract Plan of the River Bands. It constitutes the operational base that supports local planning activities, directing them to the consideration of all the elements for the mitigation of hydrogeological risk and to the implementation of the necessary preparatory, prevention and protection measures. It is addressed above all to local administrators, technicians, professionals and, in general, to all subjects who are involved at an institutional level in the planning of hydrogeological risk mitigation activities, but it is also aimed at citizens and all those who intend to actively contribute in the activities of prevention and reduction of the danger in the event of the occurrence of flood events.

After the opinion of the fourth Commission of the Regional Council, the two floors will receive the green light by decree of the President of the Council of Ministers.

"Water is a precious but limited and fragile commodity - declared Governor Christian Solinas -. Responsible use of the resource depends not only on the protection of the environmental heritage and the drinking supply, but also strategic sectors of the Region's economy. such as agriculture, tourism and industry ".

"The new tools constitute the foundation for monitoring the state of the water resource and hydrogeological safety conditions - said the Councilor for Public Works, Aldo Salaris - and allow Sardinia not only to comply with the stringent provisions of EU directives (avoiding so to run into infringement procedures) but above all to make two fundamental tools for managing the territory and supporting the programming of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and other financing programs available to the entire Sardinian regional basin ".
